The British Council is dedicated to supporting English language learning in all its forms. We have decades of experience helping institutions and the Ministry of Education to achieve their language goals. We also work directly with teachers through online and face-to-face teacher training.
Supporting teacher development
Our work with the Ministry of Education
The British Council and Ministry of Education collaborated to bring training to teachers in delivery mode fit for the 21st century.
Learn more about the innovative Oman Online TKT Project, in which 200 teachers took part across all 11 regions of Oman.

Our work with schools
Kids Read is an award winning initiative that encourages a love of reading in children. Reading opens up a world of opportunities for children exposing them to other cultures, attitudes, and issues such as the environment.
Sponsored by HSBC Bank Middle East Ltd and Affiliates, the project is in its third consecutive year.
Her Excellency Dr Madiha Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, is patron of the project in Oman. Find out more about Kids Read.
Our work with teachers
We work with teachers through our English Language Teaching Professionals Network (ELTPN) and also through TESOL Arabia, IATEFL and various ELT conferences both regional and worldwide.
The ELTPN provides face-to-face workshops, talks and presentations and online training workshops and information on the latest developments in ELT through the TeachingEnglish website. In the last year we have welcomed speakers Jeremy Harmer, Peter Lucantoni, Wendy Arnold, Dr Angi Malderez, Johanna Stirling, David Vale, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Unwin. Find out more about the ELTPN and how to join.
We are a long-standing supporter of the continuous professional development in ELT. We work with both the public and private sectors and enable many school projects with the permission and support of the Ministry of Education.
